The Wheel of Belonging

DESIGN RESEARCH | EXPERIENCE DESIGN | MEDIA PRODUCTION

Designing for belonging means transforming complex ideas into accessible, human-centered experiences. For the Wheel of Belonging, I translated extensive research to create a compelling visual system—one that invites exploration, reflection, and connection.

This research was built on voices. I synthesized hours of focus group conversations, distilling the essence into visuals that spoke louder than words.

Patterns emerged, forming the foundation of the Wheel of Belonging—a framework that embodies this collective wisdom.

The Wheel took shape through countless iterations—refining, simplifying, perfecting. The circular form, evoking community and a blooming flower, became a symbol of growth. Each petal is a pathway, guiding individuals toward a deeper sense of belonging.

Faces and voices gave depth to the research. I created a series of still and motion graphics, allowing participants' words to resonate beyond the study. This multimedia approach added warmth, making the insights not just readable but deeply felt.

Working hand-in-hand with developers, I helped design an interactive web app where users could explore the Wheel of Belonging. The experience invites users to explore stories, perspectives, and their own journey towards belonging.

At Google’s Xi Days, the Wheel became a tangible installation where visitors engaged with the framework firsthand. I supported its visual execution and guided interactions, gathering new insights in real time.

Watching the Wheel spark connection and dialogue between attendees was such a fulfilling part of the process.
